Coatings Foreman Position
Summary:
Oversee the blasting process, painting process, preparation technicians, and the proper use of all painting equipment.
Operate or tend painting machines to paint surfaces of railcar equipment.
Performs paint and coating inspections.
Oversee safety precautions and personal protection devices.
Adequately trains painting personnel and supervises stenciling.
Tasks:
Spray prepared surfaces with specified amounts of primers or finish coatings.
Apply primer over any repairs made to railcar surfaces.
Select the correct spray gun system for the material being applied.
Pour paint into spray guns and adjust nozzles and paint mixes in order to get the proper paint flow and coating thickness.
Disassemble, clean, and reassemble sprayers and power equipment, using solvents, wire brushes, and cloths for cleaning duties.
Monitor painting operations in order to identify flaws such as blisters and streaks so that their causes can be corrected.
Dispose of hazardous waste in an appropriate manner.
Paint by hand areas that cannot be reached with a spray gun, or those that need retouching.
Select paint according to company requirements and match colors of paint following specified color charts.
Adjust controls on heat lamps, portable ventilators, and exhaust units in order to speed the drying of vehicles between coats.
Apply designs, lettering, or other identifying items to finished products, using paint brushes or paint sprayers and /or supervises stenciling.
Operate lifting and moving devices in order to move equipment or materials so that areas to be painted are accessible.
Lay out logos, symbols, or designs on painted surfaces, according to blueprint specifications, using measuring instruments, stencils, and patterns.
Verify paint consistency, using a viscosity meter.
Administer Surface Contamination Tests if required.
Use of proper testing techniques to meet the quality standards of AAR and NACE.
Responsible for proper completion of all paperwork on reporting procedures.
Trained to perform intermediate and final bake procedures on all railcar and/or equipment.
Atmospheric testing and holiday testing procedures when required.
Skills:
Ability to lead in an industrial environment, blast and painting equipment Able to stand for long periods of time with limited breaks.
Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and team lift up to 150 pounds.
Work in extreme temperatures and elements for an extended period of time.
Must be able to work in confined spaces.
Must be able to work at elevated heights.
Must be able to read and comprehend basic drawings and scope of work.
Must possess basic math skills, addition, subtraction.
Qualities:
Ability to communicate effectively (oral & written).
Ability to lead others in an industrial setting.
Dependable Teachable Mechanically Inclined Committed to Personal Excellence (Safety, Quality, Productivity) Experience and Education:
